Planning a weekend getaway with your kids? HOTELMARIA is located right between Vienna and Burgenland. Walk in the footsteps of the Romans in the Roman city of Carnuntum and take a journey back in time to the former province of Pannonia. The Heidentor (Heathen's Gate), a triumphal arch dating from 337-361 AD, is truly impressive and can be found on the way there!
Just around the corner lies Laxenburg Palace Park, one of Europe's most important historical landscape gardens and the favorite residence of Empress Maria Theresa. How about a ride on the miniature train to Franzensburg Castle, a boat trip on the pond, feeding the ducks, or letting loose on the large children's playground? And don't forget to pick up a cup of ice cream from Laxenburg Ice Cream Parlor!
Should your kids still be full of energy, they can let off steam on our large hotel lawn while you relax with a coffee on the terrace!
Family Park & Lake Neusiedl
Enjoy a weekend with your family at Family Park in St. Margarethen and on Lake Neusiedl!
Located approximately 35 minutes by car from the hotel and only a few kilometers from Lake Neusiedl and the free city of Rust, the Familypark offers numerous attractions for children of all ages on 14.5 hectares.
Whether in the adventure castle, the fairytale forest, on the farm or the adventure island, at the adventure and water playgrounds, the climbing gardens or music theatre - here you can really let loose.
Or – how about a boat trip on Lake Neusiedl afterwards? Besides the lido in Rust, you can rent pedal boats and electric boats at the sailing harbor or take a ferry across the steppe lake.
Roman city of Carnuntum
Before Carnuntum became the administrative center of the Roman province of Pannonia, it was a Celtic settlement. Situated on the Danube Limes, the legions secured the border of the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 4th centuries AD. With 50,000 inhabitants, it resembled a metropolis and was a major trading center, as it lay on the Amber Road.
Carnuntum is one of the most important ancient archaeological sites in Austria.
The Roman quarter in particular, with its villas, thermal baths, amphitheater and gladiator school, reflects the former lifestyle of antiquity.
Schlosspark Laxenburg
Laxenburg Palace was the favorite residence of Empress Maria Theresa; Emperor Franz Joseph and Sissi spent their honeymoon there.
There is plenty to experience in the park:
- Take the Bummerl train to Franzensburg
- traditional ferry trip across the pond to Franzensburg
- Boat trip across the pond
- Feeding the ducks
- large children's playground (6,000 m2)
Wien for Kids
There is also plenty to see for younger children in Vienna:
- Schönbrunn Zoo with its lions, tigers, giraffes, monkeys, elephants, zebras, bears...the rainforest house, nature experience and treetop walkway
- Children's Museum Schönbrunn Palace: What was the daily life of a princess or prince like back then?
- St. Stephen's Cathedral: How about going up to St. Stephen's Cathedral? ...either on foot via the 343 steps to the south tower or by elevator to the north tower to see Austria's largest bell, the Pummerin?
- From mid-March to the end of October, the Prater offers more than 250 attractions for the whole family. TIP: Take a ride on the Ferris wheel and enjoy the fantastic view over Vienna!
- The Natural History Museum is a must-see for all dinosaur enthusiasts!
- House of the Sea and should it rain, you can admire native and exotic fish, sharks, piranhas, turtles, crocodiles, snakes as well as free-flying birds and roaming monkeys.
- ZOOM Children's Museum with hands-on exhibitions and workshops including an animation studio; or how about experimenting with artists, painting, pasting or modeling?
Don't forget: Children up to 6 years old and pupils up to 15 years old travel free of charge on the Vienna public transport system during school holidays.

Both terraces offer a great view of our hotel garden with its large lawn, which is ideal for playing football... Balls are ready in the lounge! So, let's go!
The parents can relax with a cup of coffee in the meantime.
